Pisces Presidents

Posted on August 25, 2011 by

As the Republican Party is serving up two Pisces sun presidential candidates (Romney and Perry), I wanted to take a look at past Piscean presidents. Of our 43 presidents, there have been four with sun in Pisces:

  • George Washington (1789-1797)
  • James Madison (1809-1817)
  • Andrew Jackson (1829-1837)
  • Grover Cleveland (1885-1889, 1893-1897)

The 18th and 19th centuries were better environments for Piscean US presidents. The 20th century produced none. Maybe the 21st century will see a return of this mutable water sign in the White House.

Pisces, the Ocean and Your Feet

Posted on June 17, 2012 by

I just spent some time by the sea. Large bodies of water are known to soothe the soul, if songs and poems are to be trusted.

But what I wonder is whether it’s the soul that’s being soothed or simply our feet?

Toes in the sand

For many of us, our feet and toes spend their lives in cramped shoes. If at the office all of your colleagues were to take their shoes off at once, the staff would recoil in smell and the view of sweaty, ugly, wrinkled and abused feet.

At the beach, our toes and feet are free! They are soothed in sand and cleansed in water. Going barefoot on the beach is like going naked – a sensuous and divine pleasure.

As I crossed a Florida street barefoot, the inner demon of my childhood nurse neighbor rang in my inner ear – there are so many germs on the ground!

I don’t care, my feet said, we want freedom! We never want to wear shoes again!

At the beach, everyone’s feet are beautiful. The repulsion feet can cause in daily life is eradicated at the beach.

315: Andrew Jackson: The First Democrat

leave a comment »

Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 – June 8, 1845) was the seventh President of the United States (1829–1837). Based in frontier Tennessee, Jackson was a politician and army general who defeated the Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (1814), and the British at the Battle of New Orleans (1815). A polarizing figure who dominated the Second Party System in the 1820s and 1830s, as president he dismantled the Second Bank of the United States and initiated ethnic cleansing and forced relocation of Native American tribes from the Southeast to west of the Mississippi River. His enthusiastic followers created the modern Democratic Party. The 1830–1850 period later became known as the era of Jacksonian democracy.[1]
